What is a Spotsticker?

A lot of talk the past few years about Spotsticker jigheads.  I get tons of emails and phone calls every week with the same question.  What is a Spotsticker?  Hopefully, this page can shed some light on that question.

A spotsticker jighead is a round ball jighead with the perfect hooks for bass fishing.  Donnie and Glen at Spotsticker baits, use quality Eagle Claw thin wire hooks in all their jigheads.  The thin wire hook is perfect for fishing these lures on lightweight tackle such as spinning equipment with 6 or 8 pound test line.   It is a perfect finesse bait for deep clear water.  In my opinion, the light wire hook is the most important part of a jigheads construction.

Like all jigheads, A spotsticker will present a plastic bait, such as a ZOOM finesse worm,  in a horizontal manner.   This is alot different than a Texas rig worm which presents the bait in a vertical manner.  This is achieved by the line tie being on the side of the jighead instead of being on the top end of a off shank worm hook which would be used to fish a Texas rig.  This horizontal presentation causes the bait to "swim" as you bounce it off the bottom or structure.

As you can see in the image below, the jighead will present the bait with a stand up action which will keep the hook pointed up at all times.  This will ensure a perfect hook set in the top of the mouth.  This placement of the hook is your best bet for landing 100% of your catch.  The stand up tail will also trigger strikes when fish are a bit slow.

Spotstickers are offered in various sizes and weights to fit your fishing needs.  Donnie and Glen have covered all the basis with their line up.  The major differences between the heads is the type of hook.  Two different types of hooks are offered.  An Eagle Claw 570 and Eagle Claw 574.  The 570 hook is a wide gap hook and the 574 is a long shank.  You can see the differences in the image below.  The long shank will allow you to rig your worm perfectly straight and the wide gap will give you a little "bend" in your bait.  You will have to decide which you  prefer.  There are positives for both styles.  Each style is also offered in various hook sizes and weights ranging from 1/16 to 1/4 of an ounce.

Rigging the spotsticker is simple.  The image below shows the normal weedless rigging of a ZOOM finesse worm on a spotsticker.  These also work great for tubes, grubs, flukes and spider jigs.
